A scrunchie can add up to any gift set!

A scrunchie is a sewing project many beginners start with, and I think all of us who love to sew probably have done one already... am I right?
I think scrunchies make such lovely small gifts — you can even create a coordinated set using matching colors or textures! But the truth is, a simple scrunchie can beautifully complement another handmade gift. When I made this furry 🐻 Boxy Pouch that I love ❤️ I made a set of two matching scrunchies to go with it!

That’s why I’m sharing my simple scrunchie tutorial here — in two sizes — just in case you want to make a matching set for mother and daughter 🥰
Materials needed:
» Fabric in any color / print you wish with:
- adult size: 52 cm x 12 cm / 20 inch x 5 inch;
- child size: 46 cm x 10,5 cm;
» Elastic - ideally with 5 mm / 1/4inch width: you may need to adjust the elastic length according to it's elasticity;
- adult size: 23 cm / 9 inch;
- child size: 20 cm / 8 inch
Sewing Instructions:
1. Iron your fabrics. Cut the fabric according to measures provided. Align all the materials to make sure you have everything you need.
2. Fold the rectangle in half by it’s length (right sides together, meaning wrong side is out and facing you!) and iron it. Pin.
Mark on each ending about 5 cm / 2 inch (it's the place where I put the last pin) and leave it open without a pin, we are sewing from one side to the other leaving this space open.

3. Sew with straight stitch, remember: do not sew beyond the 5 cm mark.

4. Turn the tube inside out and iron it flat so it’s easier to work with. Get ready for next step which is using your safety pin to insert the elastic in the hole, and tie a knot in the end:

5. With the tips right side together, pin them together to sew. You have very little room to sew and pin, so you will only be able to pin in the beginning:

6. Sew slowly while holding the fabric together with your hands. When you start sewing the fabric is pinned, but since there isn't much room to pin all around you'll have to keep pressing your fabric together with your fingers when sewing around:

7. After pining the gap left open we are going to sew it and close the scrunchie! Edge stitch (as the name says close to the edge) with a matching thead! If you prefer you can hand sew it with invisible stitch, for a perfect finishing, it depends on your hand sewing skills and preference.

8. With your hands, slide the elastic into the side where the closing seam it's located, so it get’s hidden while wearing it. Your scrunchie is now ready to use!

Have you ever made a scrunchie to match another project? I’d love to know!
